1952 was the year that the first Miss Universe contest took place. This was the year when the most beautiful woman on earth was chosen. The beauty pageant has seen many changes over the years. Participants have been given different tasks and tried out various trials. Over the years, the criteria used to evaluate the participants" appearances and the parameters used to do so have changed. Miss Universe quickly rose to be the most popular pageant, with broadcasts in nearly 200 countries and a viewership of more than 500 million people.
